One of the first things PennyGo asks you to choose is your Plan Cycle.
It might sound unfamiliar, but the idea is simple. Most of us already have a routine for managing money, whether that’s organising bills every payday, setting money aside fortnightly or reviewing finances once a month.
PennyGo helps make that routine more consistent, working out what needs funding, what’s already covered and where your money needs to go.
What’s a Plan Cycle?
Your Plan Cycle is how often PennyGo prepares your money plan.
You can choose:
Weekly: Every seven days.
Fortnightly: Every two weeks.
Monthly: Once a month.
There’s no right or wrong choice. Someone paid fortnightly might prefer a fortnightly plan, but your Plan Cycle doesn’t have to match your payday.
That’s particularly helpful if you have irregular income or share expenses with someone who’s paid differently.
Your Plan Cycle belongs to your plan, not your employer’s payroll calendar.
And what’s Plan Day?
Your Plan Day is the day you organise your money within that repeating cycle.
For example, if you’re paid every second Thursday, you might choose a fortnightly Plan Cycle with Friday as your Plan Day.
On Friday, PennyGo can show what your upcoming commitments need, what’s already covered and whether money needs moving between your accounts.
You make any transfers through your bank. PennyGo doesn’t move money automatically.
Importantly, if money is already where it’s needed, PennyGo accounts for that rather than asking you to transfer it again.
Choosing and setting your planning rhythm
Think about when you’d naturally prefer to organise your finances. Payday or shortly afterwards can be convenient, but it’s entirely up to you.
During guided setup, you’ll reach Set your Plan Cycle, where you choose:
How often? Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly.
Next Plan Day: The date you’d like your repeating plan to follow.
For example, selecting Fortnightly and Friday 6 November 2026 gives PennyGo a starting point for your regular fortnightly Plan Days.
You can review or change this later under Setup → Plan settings.
If you’re planning with a partner, you can each have different planning rhythms. Changing your income payment dates won’t automatically change your Plan Cycle.
What happens on Plan Day?
Your Dashboard helps you see what needs attention, including money already covered, transfers required and anything still to fund.
Imagine your upcoming commitments require $500.
If PennyGo recognises that $150 is already in the right account, only $350 remains to be put in place.
If that $350 is available in another eligible account, PennyGo can show the transfer needed.
You don’t have to calculate separate transfers for every bill or move money that’s already where it belongs.
If there isn’t enough eligible money available, PennyGo keeps the remaining amount visible as Still to fund, rather than treating it as covered.
What if I’m not paid on Plan Day?
That’s fine. Your Plan Day is for organising money, not necessarily receiving it.
You might plan on Monday but receive wages on Wednesday. PennyGo keeps those dates separate and doesn’t treat Wednesday’s expected income as money already available on Monday.
If your income varies, PennyGo also won’t assume an unpredictable future payment will arrive.
You can even establish a Plan Cycle without adding income yet. PennyGo can still show what your commitments require, although funding and transfer guidance will be more limited.
Do I need to change it every payday?
No. That’s exactly what PennyGo is designed to help you avoid.
Once you’ve chosen a planning rhythm, it continues automatically. You can update bills, income or savings when things change without rebuilding your Plan Cycle.
If your circumstances change significantly, you can deliberately choose a new rhythm in Setup.
Otherwise, your Plan Cycle can remain a consistent part of managing your money.
A simpler financial routine
Your Plan Cycle and Plan Day aren’t meant to add another task to your week. They’re there to make managing money more predictable.
Choose a rhythm that suits your life, keep your commitments up to date and let PennyGo help work out what needs to happen.
You stay in control of your money. PennyGo helps you stay prepared.
